The agreement between the companies grants Spin Master an exclusive worldwide licence to design, develop and manufacture Chaotic toys, including action figures and collectables.
Spin Master also has the exclusive rights to market and distribute toys, excluding plush, in North America, the UK, France and Mexico. 4Kids will grant toy distribution rights to distributors for all other territories.
The first toys resulting from the appointment are scheduled to hit retail in late 2009 or early 2010.
In just over one year since its October 2007 launch in America, Chaotic has been named the number one-selling trading card game in Canada (since June 2008), and the number three position in the US (since April 2008), behind only Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! (based on retailer and distributor reports).
The companion television series, Chaotic: M’arrillian Invasion, the second season in the Chaotic animation, airs on the CW Television Network. The original series, Chaotic, also airs in the Jetix block of Toon Disney. The series is also broadcast in the UK and Mexico and is scheduled to debut on Gulli TV in France and RTL2 in Germany this spring.
Al Kahn, chairman and CEO at 4Kids said: “With Chaotic setting a new standard for 21st century game-play, and Spin Master well-known for producing innovative and engaging toys, this is a perfect partnership,”
Adam Beder, vice president of licensing for Spin Master added: “There are strong synergies between the Chaotic and Bakugan brands and judging by Chaotic’s recent upward trend, we believe it represents an exciting opportunity for us in the boys action and trading card categories.”
Bryan C. Gannon, CEO of TC Digital Games and Chaotic USA Entertainment Group commented: “Spin Master has the pulse of today’s action toy consumers and brings the energy, passion and proven track record that can take the revolutionary Chaotic Brand to another level.”
4Kids Entertainment and TC Digital Games will also celebrate the official EMEA launch of the Chaotic Trading Card Game at the Nuremberg Toy Fair this year, with a launch event scheduled for Thursday, February 5th, at 17:00, at Congress Center Nuremberg (CCN) Room Athen on Level 1.
Bryan C. Gannon, president and CEO of TC Digital Games commented: “The support of all the key Trading Card Game retailers in the United States and Canada along with the core support at specialty and neighbourhood hobby gaming stores has assisted The Chaotic Trading Card Game to a level rarely achieved in the first year of a new brand and game.
“We expect the same support from the EMEA retailers and hobby stores that TC Digital will be supporting from our network of highly regarded European Distributors.”
Sandra Vauthier-Cellier, managing director of 4Kids added: “Chaotic’s steady growth in North America and the UK makes this the right time to launch this multi-media and multi-platform property across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. We are looking forward to introducing the brand to prospective licensing partners at Nuremberg in February.”
