Spin Master's Ionix construction system is expanding its portfolio to include characters from DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon 2 and the world of Pokémon.

The Ionix bricks shapeshift into characters and will allow kids to train, evolve and build their characters from Dragons and Pokémon in a whole new way. In addition, Ionix bricks are 100 per cent compatible with other leading construction systems.

"Dragons and Pokémon represents the greatest children's enetertainment platforms in the world," said James Knight, VP global construction. "Spin Master is thrilled to welcome great characters like Hiccup, Toothless, Pikachu and Squirtle to the Ionix family.

"We're extremely excited for these toys to hit the shelves and for kids to see the shapeshifting magic for themselves."

DreamWorks Animation's global head of consumer products, Michael Connolly, added: "DreamWorks Dragons is establishing itself as a year-round, global franchise and Ionix is the latest example of Spin Master's commitment to creating fantastic lines befitting of these incredible characters and stories."

J C Smith, director of consumer marketing at The Pokémon Company International, continued: "We are thrilled to bring the world of Pokémon to Ionix and the construction category. Fans will love playing out exciting adventures with their favourite Pokémon characters in an entirely new and innovative way."

How to Train Your Dragon by Ionix will hit retail in May, followed by Pokémon in October.
