A former pizza-delivery boy has donated over £11,000 to Children in Need, after bidding on a Scalextric Ultimate Track at auction.

James Swift, a 39-year-old Dominos Pizza franchisee from Swindon outbid an audience of Scalextric fans this weekend at CarFest South to win the prized track manufactured by Hornby Hobbies.

All proceeds from Swift’s bid of £11,200 will now be heading to Children in Need.

The self-confessed racing car fanatic explained that he had always had a vested interest in Scalextric and Formula 1. He therefore decided to put his passion to good use and help raise money for the children’s charity.

Stretching 45 metres in length, the coveted track itself is a Scalexric Ultimate Track, designed by British Formula 1 veteran Martin Brundle.

“The track first caught my attention back in June when Martin first designed it, my friend even tried to contact Martin about having the set, so I was delighted when I saw that it was up for auction,” said Swift.

“I am really looking forward to putting the Ultimate Track in my garage so I can race my friends.”

The 177-piece track was auctioned off in the Classic Car Auctions CarFest Sale on Sunday, August 30th, where it took centre stage on Hornby Hobbies’ stand.

Jim Procter-Blain, Hornby Hobbies’ marketing controller, added: “The auction was so exciting, watching people bidding against each other for a chance to win the ultimate track was fantastic.

“We are delighted with the result of the auction and so pleased that we could be a part of helping to raise money for Children in Need. I hope that the track will be enjoyed by James for years to come.”
