Hornby's Star Wars Scalextric sets are now on shelves.

ToyNews first revealed details of the products and Hornby's three-year Star Wars licensing deal back in January.

The two sets let kids (and big kids) recreate famous scenes from the original trilogy films Star Wars: A New Hope and Return of the Jedi.

The Micro Star Wars Death Star Attack Set, RRP £69.99, is inspired by the sequence where Luke Skywalker (“use the force, Luke”) pilots his X-Wing to destroy the Death Star, while being pursued by Darth Vader’s Tie Fighter. It features a 3.8 metre glow in the dark track and illuminated starfighters.

The next Star Wars Battle of Endor Set, RRP £99.99, features Speeder Bikes piloted by Luke Skywalker and a Scout Trooper, which race around the 4.3m printed Endor forest scene track and duck through the hazards.

Hornby says retailers and fans have been pre-ordering the sets for months.

Scalextric marketing manager, Paul Chandler commented: "We have worked on the Scalextric Star Wars project for over two years now and we are thrilled with the products we have created, working in close partnership with Lucasfilm.

"The combination of the incredible Scalextric slot racing system together with the iconic characters and vehicles from Star Wars is truly unique. And together, the Force is even stronger."

Derek Stothard, senior director of Global Licensing at Lucasfilm said: “We are extremely pleased to be working with the team at Scalextric. Their products bring the excitement of Star Wars to a well established category, and we’re sure that fans of Scalextric and of StarWars will enjoy them.”
