This weekend marked the 10th anniversary of the Rubik’s UK Championship, where Robert Yau was crowned the champion, having cracked the cube in 9.38 seconds.

Yau faced some tough competition, where he fought off fellow speedcubers, including the 2014 UK and EU Champion, Alexander Lau, who won the 3x3 Rubik’s Cube competition in 9.38 seconds.

Yau said: “I wasn’t expecting it all. I’m just so surprised I’m the 2015 Rubik’s UK Champion! I’ve been cubing for six years and I practice every weekend, averaging a time of nine seconds. Solving the cube is really addictive!”

Taking place from November 7th until November 8th, at The Forum, Stevenage, to celebrate the 10th anniversary, speedcubers from around the world united to build a mosaic of Star Wars character Han Solo, out of 1,000 Rubik’s Cubes.

The championship saw 200 competitors from 19 countries come together to fight for the championship.

Other events were also held during the day, including 2x2 Rubik’s Cube, 4x4 Rubik’s Cube, 5x5 Rubik’s Cube, 3x3 Rubik’s Cube one handed and 3x3 Rubik’s Cube blindfolded.

Plus, speedcubers also got the chance to solve the cube using just their feet.

Chrisi Trussell, brand manager at Rubik’s Brand Ltd, added: “It’s really thrilling to be celebrating the 10th Rubik’s UK Championship.

“We’ve had a brilliant weekend here and it was great to see all the speedcubers coming together to build the Han Solo mosaic, what better way to celebrate the event’s 10th anniversary. Congratulations to Robert! It was a tough competition but he handled the pressure and played very well!”
