Press attacks UK toy pricing

Toys have taken another hammering in the press, with allegations of 'rip-off' Britain affecting the industry.
Publish date:

The Daily Mail and The Mirror have reported that licensed Toy Story toys are priced at up to 60 per cent more than the same products in the US.

The biggest difference in price is for the Jessie and Bullseye toys, which retail at £29.99 in the UK and £18.58 in the US, a 61.4 per cent difference.

MPs and children's campaigners have criticised the price gaps and called for investigations into the matter.

The story is the latest in a string of attacks on the toy industry, including the new environment secretary, Caroline Spelman's criticism of toy packaging and Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg's attack on advertising to children.
