A Playmobil movie is set to hit cinemas in 2017.

Paris-based On Entertainment is teaming with Wild Bunch and Pathe to create the $80 million animated feature based on the toy brand.

On Entertainment secured the film rights to Playmobil toys while Pathe and Wild Bunch are co-developing the film, reports Variety.

Bob Persichetti, head of story on animated films including Monsters vs. Aliens, Shrek 2 and Puss in Boots, is leading development on the Playmobil film.
