Playmobil is extending its global reach with a new logistics centre in Germany set to open in 2014.

The new centre will be used for the shipping of Playmobil toys worldwide, expanding the toy firm's European workforce.

Playmobil's main production facility in Dietenhofen reached its capacity last year after producing over a record 61.3 million packages.

The new build is set to occupy 18 hectares of land in its new home in Bavaria, 25km from the current plant, as company owner, Horst Brandstatter resisted the pressure to relocate facilities to China.

Jamie Dickinson, marketing manager for Playmobil UK, said: "We're very excited to be opening a new production facility for 2014.

"It's fantastic that demand continues to grow for Playmobil's traditional, innovative toys after almost 40 years in the market.

"We certainly hope this expansion is indicative of great things to come."
