Along with its global partners, the firm has decided to extend the series, which will be entitled Bakugan: New Vestroia with new episodes to be finalised for Spring 2009.
Currently airing on Cartoon Network in the US and TELETOON in Canada, the second season will follow characters as they join forces with the Bakugan Resistance to restore peace and freedom to their enslaved planet.
The new programmes are a co-production from Nelvana Enterprises, Spin Master, Sega Toys and TMS Entertainment, with animation by TMS Entertainment in association with Sega Toys.
Doug Murphy, president of Nelvana and general manager at Corus Kids said: “Bakugan is quickly becoming the #1 ‘gotta-have’ boys’ action property for both broadcasters and retailers. This is truly an international success story, highlighting an outstanding working partnership of companies from Canada, the U.S. and Japan.”
Bakugan toys and accessories by partner Spin Master are currently topping the charts at retail, beating other well established movie-based properties that have long dominated the boys’ action aisles.
The game’s Bakugan spheres are selling out instantly due to overwhelming product demand, with 2.5 per second currently being sold in North America.
Already in the US, Canada, Australia and much of Asia, Bakugan toys will debut in France and the UK for Christmas 2008, with the rest of Europe rolling out through 2009 along with related broadcast launches.
As Bakugan’s exclusive licensing agent in the U.S., Cartoon Network Enterprises has signed several new partners in the soft lines categories for the brand featuring some of the top manufacturers in a range of key product categories including apparel, sleepwear, footwear, swimwear and accessories.
DVDs of first season episodes were released in August by Cartoon Network and Warner Home Video in the U.S. and Vivendi Home Entertainment in Canada.
