Mattel signs BB twins in ad deal

The firm's latest marketing campaign for the Barbie Girls MP3 Player airs on TV today.

Mattel has commissioned Samantha and Amanda Marchant, the twins from Big Brother, to appear in the Barbie Girls MP3 Player TV ad.

The campaign features the twins interacting with the unit and demonstrating the new Barbie Girls website.The campaign will run until Christmas on all major channels.

Kirsty Bullen, Girls Marketing Manager said it’s the first time local celebrities have been used to promote the brand.

“We were really impressed with the twins; not only how much they genuinely love Barbie but how much our target market audience connects with them,” Bullen said.

“We were surprised at the reaction that children gave us to the twins.They thought they were such fun and represented the essence of what the Barbie brand stands for – being who you wanna be and making dreams come true - which is everything the twins have achieved.We are delighted to be working with them on this project,” she said.

The website has attracted over six million registered users since its launch in April this year, according to Mattel, with 50,000 new users signing up each day. The MP3 Player allows users to access extra content online.
