Mattel reboots American Girl doll brand

Mattel is rebooting its popular American Girl doll range with the new dolls and the reintroduction of a previously archived character.

Introduced in 1986, the BeForever line of historical dolls, books and accessories is now undergoing a refresh with eight new characters, outfits and more.

And to mark the launch, the toy firm is also bringing back its previously shelved Samantha doll with new clothes and products.

The new characters joining the direct-to-consumer American Girl brand, include Kaya a Nez Perce girl from 1764 and Julie, a wild child, from the 1970s, reports Kidscreen.

The BeForever line will also include girls apparel inspired by the fashion styles of each historical period.

To help launch the range, Mattel has teamed with Project runway for a BeForever-inspired designer challenge.

The new dolls will retail in the US for $115 each.
