Mattel loses 'Mr Barbie'

Richard Dickson, the man who was at the helm of the Barbie brand globally for Mattel, is leaving the firm.

From February 8th, Dickson will be president and CEO of branded businesses at the apparel, footwear and accessories company, Jones Apparel Group. He will report to Wesley Card, whose title changes to CEO.

At Mattel, Dickson was general manager and senior VP of Barbie, helping to revitalise the 50 year-old brand, driving a turnaround in its business. He oversaw the creation of a new brand identity, innovative product, designer collaborations, break-frame marketing, global events and retail developments, including the brand's first ever flagship store in Shanghai.

Before that, he was senior VP of marketing, media and entertainment worldwide at Mattel Brands, helping to drive the growth of the firm's properties outside of the toy aisle.

Prior to Mattel, he spent over ten years at Bloomingdale's in a variety of positions, before launching Gloss.com, an e-commerce beauty website which was acquired by Estee Lauder in 2000.
