A Labyrinth Marble Maze has fought off The Avengers, Jurassic Park and The Goonies to become the latest project to triumph on the LEGO Ideas platform.

Created by Jason Allemann, the Labyrinth Marble Maze is now under production at the LEGO headquarters, before it rolls out to retailers.

Allemann is a Canadian LEGO artist who re-kindled his love for the plastic construction bricks when the firm acquired the Star Wars licence in the 1990s.

Today Allemann – who operates on the LEGO fans site as user JKBrickworks – builds lifelike sculptures, mechanical models and micro-scale spaceships.

His design, a tilting and pivoting tabletop labyrinth board game, constructed entirely from LEGO pieces, staved off tough competition from sets including an Avengers Helicarrier, The Goonies 30th Anniversary set piece, The Flying Dutchman and a Jurassic Park building set.

The team at LEGO Ideas is now working on the final product design of the set, the pricing and availability of the Labyrinth Marble Maze.

“The LEGO Review Board has evaluated each project according to our decision criteria,” read a statement from the team. “We have decided that all other concepts in the second 2014 review period will not be produced as LEGO sets.

“This decision, however, does in no way take away from the incredible talent put into these projects or the passion supporters have shown.”

The Discworld set, Disney Princess Frozen: Elsa’s Ice Palace, Legend of Zelda: King of Red Lions Play Set, Small Yellow and daft Punk will be among the set battling it out for a place on the retailers’ shelves in the first 2015 LEGO Review results, scheduled to be announced this autumn.
