LeapFrog has unveiled its first augmented reality learning experience for kids in Imagicard.

The series of collectable cards allows kids to bring their favourite characters including Paw Patrol and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to life by taking a picture via the firm’s new LeapPad Platinum.

The LeapFrog Imagicard collection has been designed to enhance a child’s digital learning experience., featuring popular licensed characters alongside educational content.

Meanwhile, the team states that the best way to ‘experience Imagicard games’ are on the firm’s latest incarnation of the LeapPad, the durable, seven-inch high-res, multi-touch captive LeapPad Platinum.

“We were looking to create a physical and digital experience with LeapFrog Imagicard games that provided a more social and traditional learning environment, while still offering an incredibly engaging play experience for children,” said Dr. Jody LeVos, director of learning at LeapFrog.

“Children loved that they could bring their favourite characters to life in an interactive tablet experience, as well as collect and share cards with their friends. We know that children learn best when they’re having fun, and our new LeapFrog Imagicard experience delivers on this in a big way.”

LeapFrog Imagicard sees kids use the inbuilt camera of a LeapFrog tablet to capture the card on screen, bringing the character into their game and unlocking new modes of play.

The range launches with LeapFrog’s Letter Factory, Paw Patrol and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and each game features the firm’s patented Just for Me Learning Technology, allowing kids to personalise their play.

LeapFrog Imagicard is also backwards compatible with all LeapFrog LeapPad tablets, with the exception of LeapPad 1.

The range will be available for £19.99 per game and is aimed at kids aged three to eight years old. It will be available online and at major retail locations from August this year.

Meanwhile, the LeapPad Platinum tablet will retail at £99.99 and will be available from July this year.
