Leapfrog launches schools programme with Sinitta

Leapfrog teams up with the National Schools Partnership and Sinitta to launch Tag ?Love to Read? programme.

The programme is a literacy initiative to build a passion for reading among children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage One.

Based on the school curriculum, the firm will provide participating schools with teaching materials devised by teachers in conjunction with literacy expert Jeni Riley. A parents guide to help encourage reading at home will also be provided.

More than 3,000 schools will be taking part and each school will receive a teachers’ pack to educate and entertain children, which will include a CD Rom for teachers with activities and lesson plans and a booklet for every parent of children involved in the scheme.

Materials will also be provided for schools to hold a competition to create a ‘Love to Read’ superhero, with one child winning a range of Tag products.

Leapfrog has launched a website for teachers and parents to complement the programme, which includes a quiz to find out individual children’s reading styles and a range of tips, information, interactive games, book lists and information on Leapfrog’s educational toys.

Celebrity mum Sinitta said: “We all know that reading is the foundation of learning and we need to get it right, however it can be hard to know where to start. With the Tag ‘Love to Read’ Programme, parents and teachers now have a fantastic resource to help encourage a love of reading.”

Sinitta also recommends the parents guid and commented: “I now understand how my child learns to read and there are tips that show me how to get involved, making reading a fun experience for all.”
