John Barbour, CEO of Leapfrog has said that the electronic toy maker wants to become ‘major player’ in the app market.

Speaking to the technology website Pocket-lint, Barbour also announced: "We are already working on the next Leapster Explorer, and the next LeapPad."

The current LeapPad is still unreleased in the UK, but is set to hit shelves on August 15th.

Speaking about Leapfrog's App Store strategy, Barbour said: "We just can’t make cheap apps. The ones you do find just don’t offer the same experience, and most of the time they just aren’t very good.

"Our goal is to make such a great experience that you are happy to pay for it."
