Almost three million Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn apps have been downloaded worldwide to date.

Brand owner Mattel this week said the apps have had over 2.8 million downloads so far and that this number is continuing to grow.

Last year Fisher-Price introduced ‘app-cessories’ such as the Laugh & Learn Apptivity Case for iPhone and iPod, which is designed for children over six months old. New cases also launched for the iPad in May.

A Kid-Tough Apptivity Case for iPhone and iPod will also hit shelves, which is targeting pre-school kids aged over three years old. This comes with a free Photo Studio app that lets children get creative.

Mattel is marketing the 2012 products with a series of ‘Just Like Mum and Dad’ photos, which show how parents can use the apps with their children.

Laugh & Learn apps include the Learning Letters Monkey app, Where’s Puppy’s Nose? For Baby and Let’s Count Animals For Baby.

“This generation of children is the most tech-savvy yet,” said Kathleen Alfano, Fisher-Price’s senior director of child research.

“Families share their smart devices and children often inherit their parents’ hand-me-down devices to call their own. While smart phones and age-appropriate apps have become a seamless, new developmental tool for children, parents can still keep a well-rounded toy box that includes both traditional and tech toys.”
