John Crane is expanding

Firm recruits six new staff as it continues to grow.

Stewart Betts has joined John Crane as senior designer. Betts graduated from the University of Derby in 2005 with a first class degree in product design and has won various awards for commercial project submissions including JCB and Best in Show at the University of Derby degree show.

The new designer joins from Sue Ryder, where he designed wooden products, mainly dolls houses & furniture, children's wooden stools and bedroom accessories.

Career highlights include developing guitars with Mark Griffiths (base player with the Shadows), designing a wooden fantasy castle and plastic figurines for a Daily Mail and Sue Ryder deal.

David Close joined John Crane Ltd as an Apprentice straight from studying business and IT at school. Close has carried out voluntary work at a Sure Start Children’s Centre and is keen to work in the toy industry and build his marketing and business skills.

Amy Russo has also studied Business Studies at GCSE and A-Level and joins John Crane as an Apprentice.

Commenting on her new role she said: "I am thrilled to have such an amazing opportunity to study how the marketing & PR department works and in such a fun industry."

Doug Wares has been hired as an agent for the Scottish territories. Wares has worked in the Toy industry since 1988 and has an excellent toy pedigree including; Humbrol, Matchbox/Universal Toys, Majorette, Modeltime, Ideal Toys, Bandai, Tiger Electronics (Furby), Chicco, Gibsons Games, Toyway, Supercast and Nici.

John Crane has also recruited Steve West as area sales representative for Northern England. West is based in Derbyshire and has ten years sales and marketing experience within the FMCG/retail/education industries. Most of this buying experience included buying John Crane toys for Findel.

Finally, Emily Walford (pictured) has joined John Crane as area sales representative for Midlands and East Anglia. Having gained her sales experience working within the automotive sector for ten years, selling vehicles for two large manufacturers - Ford and Volvo, Walford then progressed to work for Trafficmaster and TeleAtlas as a dealer account manager.

Licensing Systems Administrator
