Hundreds of fake Frozen toys have been seized by trading standards officers, as retailers report sell out sales of the range in the UK.

Nearly 2,000 knock off toys were seized at the Port of Dover in Kent, including 426 character dolls imitating those of the award-winning Disney film, Frozen.

Confirmed by Disney as fakes, the haul of toys featured variations of Elsa and Anna dolls.

Reports now suggest that demand for the licensed dolls is so high that many High Street retailers including Tesco, Toys R Us and Argos are struggling to keep up with many items being listed as unavailable as Christmas shopping gets underway this year.

Believed to have originated from China, the haul of 1,960 fake items also contained a selection of ‘potentially dangerous’ fairy lights.

Kent County Council trading standards manager, mark Rolfe said this week’s seizure was one of the biggest ever confiscated.

“Not surprisingly, it was a very time consuming task for our officers to go through the consignments and examine samples of every product,” he said.

“Some of the items we seized were clearly potentially dangerous and likely to be aimed at the Christmas retail market.

“We are pleased that we were able to protect the public from these shoddy goods and prevent any injuries they might have caused.

“Others were counterfeit, so purchasers would have been buying an inferior product to what they expected.”
