Hasbro has announced that it is to bring back certain favourite characters from its 'Vintage' Star Wars action figure range.

It is not yet clear which action figures will be in the re-issue, but it could include popular characters like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C3PO, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader.

Hasbro made the announcement on its Facebook page:

The original Kenner Star Wars action figures were recently inducted into the US National Toy Hall of Fame.

First released in 1977, Kenner’s figures are legendary for being the most sought-after collectable toys of all time.

The most coveted figure is the Telescoping Lightsaber Darth Vader. Obi Wan, Luke and Darth Vader models released in 1978 had a telescopic saber which slid out of the hollow arm of the figure and further extended with a telescopic action. Because the feature proved hard to manufacture and broke easily, subsequent models only had a one-piece lightsaber.

The Darth Vader model remains the most prized, fetching up to $5,000 in collectors markets.

Hasbro released its first Vintage Star Wars action figures in 2010.
