Hasbro moves to end takeover speculation

Hasbro has been forced to issue a statement in response to speculation over the possible sale of the company.

Financial markets were rife with speculation that the firm had re-opened talks with private equity firm Providence Equity Partners regarding a $6bn leveraged buy-out, which would take the firm private.

Hasbro moved to dispel the takeover talk, saying it is: "Not having any discussions regarding the sale of the company. Hasbro confirmed that it had been approached by a private equity firm regarding a transaction, and said that its board of directors determined that there was no interest in pursuing such transaction."

Mattel rebuffs Hasbro's takeover approach

Mattel has informed Hasbro that its proposal undervalues the company and does not take sufficiently into account the potential for regulators to reject the deal based on antitrust concerns, sources have said.
