Last week Licensing.biz reported that Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner had all but confirmed the Transformers sequels after meeting with Paramount officials to discuss the projects.

Movie news sites are now reporting that Transformers 4 and 5 will be filmed together in a move to cut production costs. There are also rumours that Jason Statham could take over from Shia LaBeouf’s as the lead protagnoist for both films.

The last installment of the series, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, has so far grossed way over $1 billion worldwide this year.

Around the time of the film's release in June, Transformers action figures became the category leader and helped grow the sector by 6 per cent (NPD June 2011).

Transformers was the industry's second most successful brand in July after Cars, according to the NPD.
