Thanks to the popularity of the film, which entered the UK box office at number two, Flair's The Smurfs range has exceeded expectations.

Claire Powley, brand manager, said: "Our major retailers are all reporting exceptionally strong sales of our Smurfs toys.

"Fans young and old are eager to own a Smurf and as a result we are ordering in extra stocks to keep up with demand."

Flair's licence includes plush toys (pictured) and mini collectable figurines.

Flair expects the brand to be a strong performer in the future, too. Powley added: "With the popularity of Smurfs in the UK, and with the upcoming DVD release in December, the property has the opportunity to continue its success into 2012, given that it has been a favourite with fans for decades."
