Toy company Fisher-Price is teaming up with singer Shakira and her foundation Pies Descalzos, to develop a parenting app, dubbed Grow Parenting.

Available now, the app is free for first-time parents to download, which features 2,000 tips tailored to a child’s age from birth to five years, as well as a journal feature to track special milestones.

Shakira said: “As parents, it’s never too early to start fostering our children’s healthy development through the daily practice of reading, talking, singing or simply playing because we are their first teachers.

“I’m happy to know that this app will be an instrumental tool to parents and teachers who would like resources, tips and suggestions on ways to stimulate their children in all stages of development.

“As a mother I’m usually in need of new ideas on games to play, ways to target certain skills, and all of it while having fun, so I’m thrilled to know that the content in this app will be a good source of support to caregivers everywhere.”

Lisa Mancuso, senior VP, global brand marketing for Fisher-Price, added: “We’re thrilled with parents’ response to our partnership with Shakira, so naturally we wanted to do more to amplify the critical importance of early childhood development stimulation.

“She’s an excellent partner who shares our passion to give children the best possible start, and both the new Grow Parenting app and our First Steps Collection serve as tools to help parents nurture their child’s development, as well as teachers in developing countries who may be hungry for resources.”

The app is available for both Android and iOS devices in English and Spanish.
