EDITOR'S COMMENT: Twist and shout

This week, Robert Hutchins looks at a new creation from a mind that worked on Star Wars: A New Hope. And of course, there's a plug for our charity Twister marathon.

This week has provided yet more evidence that AR/VR is on route to redefining play.

This time it arrives courtesy of Phil Tippett, the brains behind the monster battling holochess that appeared on the big screen aboard the Millennium Falcon in Star Wars: A New Hope.

Tippett has set out on a mission to make this fictitious vision a reality, or at least a virtual reality, in the form of a new AR/VR card battling game HoloGrid: Monster Battle.

It's essentially a card game incorporating new tech that will bring its characters to life as they battle it out before your eyes.

And while we’re on the subject of strange creatures doing remarkable things, you might have spotted the ToyNews team sporting some altogether not too flattering morph suits at the top of the page.

Why? Well, the ToyNews team has decided to raise money for the NSPCC's upcoming Big Board Game Day by embarking on a 24 Hour Twister marathon.

Of course, this isn’t a private party. In fact, we’d like to see as many of you join us as we can possibly fit in the venue – whether it’s to play with us on the floor for an hour, or hurl abuse from the sidelines.

We know you have it in you - we’ve seen the majority of you playing In a Bind or Yoga Spinner at the monthly Board Game Club gatherings.

If you'd like to donate to the cause, our fundraising page can be found here.

And anything you could do to spread the world about what we're doing, be it sharing it on social media, shouting about it or just whispering it into a lover's ear, we'd massively appreciate it.

EDITOR'S COMMENT: Identity crisis

With news of Manchester United's Bastian Schweinsteiger and Fox News' Harris Faulkner both lobbying for the removal of toys bearing their likeness from the market, Robert Hutchins asks what this could mean to the toy inventor.

Robert Hutchins watches ToyNews' Billy Langsworthy grab a spot on TOWIE while Accentuate creators Graeme and Fiona Fraser-Bell enter the Dragons' Den.
