The UK's current number one Rubik's Cuber Breandan Vallance (pictured) is hoping to beat the Cubestormer II at Bristol's Armada House.
A victory would emulate Chess grandmaster Gary Kasparov’s famous victory over IBM’s Deep Blue computer in 1997.
The current world record for solving a classic-sized 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube is held by Feliks Zemdegs, who completed the puzzle in 5.66 seconds this year.
Mr Ru-boto: The Cubestormer solved the puzzle in a world record time of 5.352 seconds
Competitors from all corners of the globe will make the trip to Bristol to take on the Cubestormer II, which is in town on November 12th and 13th.
It's constructed entirely from Lego using four Mindstorm NXT robot kits. A Samsung Galaxy S II running a custom Android App scans the Rubik’s Cube with its camera to capture images of its surface. The Cubestomer then uses a custom-made, two-phase algorithm to unscramble the puzzle. See a video of it in action below.
At October’s Rubik’s world championships Michal Pleskowicz recorded a winning time of 8.65 seconds.
The Rubik's Cube range is distributed by John Adams in the UK.
