The perpetrators have been charged under the Copyright Act, Trade Marks Act and the Indian Penal Code. If the accused are found guilty the confiscated cubes will be destroyed.
Worldwide licensor of the Rubik’s Cube, Seven Towns, is playing a key role in the ongoing crackdown.
David Hedley Jones, VP of Seven Towns, said: “We believe we have been able to send out a strong deterrent message in the market and toy dealers will think twice before they try to stock counterfeit Rubik's Cube.
“We intend to send out cease and desist letters to other toy distributors in the same neighbourhood who we suspect also sell counterfeit cubes.
"Given that the news of the raids has spread on a wide scale, we are sure that these distributors will comply”.
