Construction category enjoys huge growth

Exclusive NPD data shows 35 per cent growth for building sets as 2012 begins.

Despite an overall drop of two per cent in traditional toy sales in January the construction, collectables and outdoor categories enjoyed considerable growth.

According to NPD, sales at the start of the year were slower than expected. But despite the dip, the construction category grow 35 per cent driven by sales of Lego's new girls brand Friends as well as Halo Mega Bloks, Transformers Kre-O and Character Building sets.

There were also strong figures from the collectables and outdoor sports categories...
