Character Group has posted a pre tax profit of £11.8 million for the year to end-August, doubling its annual takings on last year’s performance.

Sales were up by 36 per cent to £94.5 million pounds for the firm, which holds a six per cent share of the British toy market, excluding game consoles.

The firm said its new year has started well with Doctor Who toys selling strongly in the lead up to Christmas.

Richard King, chairman of Character Group said: "This recognition gives us confidence that the increase in market share that we enjoyed last year and which we have continued to experience since the start of the new financial year is likely to be maintained through the important Christmas period."
