A British man has been arrested in connection with the recent hack of electronic toy specialists, VTech.

The 21 year old was arrested by police in Berkshire on suspicion of “unauthorised access” to a computer, according to a statement from the South East Regional Crime Unit.

The arrest was made following a cyber attack on VTech’s Learning Lodge last month that resulted in the unlawful access of the details of nearly 6.5 million children.

The hack exposed photos of millions of children, as well as chatlogs and internal databases.

“We are still at the early stages of the investigation and there is still much work to be done,” said Craig Jones, head of the cyber crime unit at Serocu.

“Cyber crime is an issue which has no boundaries and affects people on a local, regional and global level.”

The hack saw details on consumers from all over the world, including the US, UK, France and China stolen. In the days following the reports of the security breach, VTech reassured customers that no credit card data had been compromised.

The investigation into the attack continues.

VTech defends new T&Cs stance following data breach

"No company that operates online can provide 100 per cent guarantee that it won’t be hacked. The Learning Lodge terms and conditions, like the T&Cs for many online sites and services, simply recognise that fact by limiting the company’s liability for the acts of third parties such as hackers."
