BRATZ/BARBIE: Mattel requests halt in Bratz production

Mattel filed court papers yesterday asking a federal judge to block MGA Entertainment from making or selling Bratz dolls.
Publish date:

Attorneys filed the papers in U.S. District Court just over a month after a jury awarded the El Segundo-based company $100 million in damages.

Isaac Larian, MGA's chief executive officer, said he was disappointed but not surprised by the filing.

"I am happy to compete with (Mattel) in the marketplace," he said. "I had hoped they would take the challenge and do the same."

The federal jury recently found that the designer of the dolls conceived the idea while working for Mattel.

Judge Stephen Larson will hear arguments on the injunction request November 10th.
