Zhu Zhu Pets heads back to toy shelves alongside new animated series

Nelvana has teamed with toy firm Cepia to launch a new animated series based on the Zhu Zhu Pets brand.

The deal will also see the Zhu Zhu Pets toy line return to shelves with Nelvana Enterprises overseeing global merchandising of the brand in conjunction with the distribution of the new series.

Cepia will be reintroducing the original hamster toys, Mr. Squiggles, Pipsqueak, NumNums and Chunk, all refreshed with an all-new look for Q3 2015.

The range will also introduce an additional two new characters, Jilly and Tulip.

“We look forward to reimagining the brand, alongside Cepia, to bring Zhu Zhu Pets to life on screen and further expand the brand’s offering for kids around the world.”

The original line of Zhu Zhu Pets was was named Toy of the Year in the US, UK, Australia, Brazil, Norway, and Czech Republic and achieved global retail sales exceeding $2 billion.

“Zhu Zhu Pets have always had distinct personalities so bringing the characters to life through entertainment is a natural evolution of the brand,” said Cepia CEO and inventor of Zhu Zhu Pets, James Russell Honsby.

“We are delighted to have found the perfect alliance with Nelvana to accomplish this dream and to create wonderful entertainment as well as new ways to enrich the brand experience with kids.”
