Independent toy retailer Whirligig is continuing its plans for national expansion with the launch of a new store in Tunbridge Wells.

The opening marks the third store under the expanding Whirligig brand, a traditional toy store dedicated to offering kids creative toys, construction kits and art and craft lines.

Peter Allinson, owner of Whirligig first launched the Whirligig toy shop name in 2012 with the opening of its Brighton store, before branching out to Chichester in 2014.

“The new store opening is a real proof of concept moment for us, we now know that the toys that we are selecting and presenting to our customers are strong sellers and that there is a real desire for the type of toys that we focus on,” Allinson told ToyNews.

“Customers can expect the same strong range of interactive and creative toys – it is what we believe in and what we enjoy selling.”

Situated in Tunbridge Wells’ Royal Victoria Palace shopping centre, the store presents a new experience for the retailer now operating in a highly commercial environment.

“Early signs suggest that customers are thrilled to find an alternative,” continued Allinson. “Whirligig is now well established and we are delighted with the reaction to our product choices and style of toys.”

Now with a good strong hold in the South East, Allinson has declared that moving further afield is an option to the independent toy retailer, but won’t be a move in any haste.

“We are looking carefully and will see what comes up, it’s something we will have to think carefully about,” he concluded.
