Wentworth Wooden Puzzles is making a donation to Piece Together, a jigsaw club that has been founded to encourage people to socialise while keeping their brain active by completing puzzles.

The development comes after data revealed that the risk of dementia could be reduced with greater cognitive activity.

The international study in the Lancet cites research that found an increase in cognitive activity was associated with a 33 per cent reduction in the risk of Alzheimer's disease.

As part of the firm’s advocacy, Wentworth has donated five puzzles to the club to help increase cognitive activity.

“We really appreciate the donation from Wentworth. Their quality wooden jigsaws with the unique whimsy pieces are such a treat to complete, I’m sure the club will be fighting over who gets to finish them first,” said Sue Riches, founder of Pieces Together.

“Instead of reading a book in which you can forget the previous story, a puzzle is something that you can start and stop whenever you want. There’s a calming influence that a jigsaw has on you, it focuses the mind and there is a great sense of satisfaction when you finish it.”
