The Toy of the Year Awards 2012 is now accepting submissions. The TIA event is now in its twelfth year.

Nominations can be put forward until October 14th. Individual committees will be formed to consider which five to seven toys will be selected for the Toy of the Year official ballot.

The finalists for each category will be announced at a national press conference on November 21st, where five group ballots - consumers, mass retailers, speciality retailers, media, and TIA members - will be launched to decide the eventual winners.

The awards will be handed out on February 11th at the Lincoln Center in New York City.

The 11 categories are:

Activity Toy of the Year
Boy Toy of the Year
Educational Toy of the Year
Game of the Year
Girl Toy of the Year
Infant/Toddler Toy of the Year
Innovative Toy of the Year
Outdoor Toy of the Year
Preschool Toy of the Year
Property of the Year
Specialty Toy of the Year

Last year, Mattel’s The Sing-a-ma-jigs won Toy of the Year while LeapFrog, Nerf and Hexbug were also honoured.
