University Games has hailed the first ever sponsored takeover of the industry’s nomadic gaming event Board Game Club as a ‘fantastic success.’

Last week’s event – held on Thursday, September 17th – marked the first ever sponsored evening for the monthly gathering, where attendees were treated to the UK debut of University Games’ revamped Pointless board game.

More than 50 national press journalists, inventors and fans of the BBC quiz show, Pointless descended upon Every Hotel Piccadilly to experience the game’s new questions and app-powered scoring system.

Board Game Club co-founder, Peter Jenkinson kicked off proceedings by introducing the game, while guessed sipped complimentary Pointless cocktails and worked through four rounds of the game.

Winners were rewarded with travel versions of the Pointless game, while many were able to take a copy of the game with them to enjoy at home.

University Games’ sales and marketing manager, Sharon Fosbery, has championed the event as a ‘fantastic platform to launch the new version of the game.’

“It was great to see so many fans of the game playing and enjoying the new features,” she said.

“The event brings together a real mix of people who have a genuine interest in playing board games together and encourages everyone to socialize, the very reason we all sit down to play games.

“We hope that this event will help to springboard the game into the public and get more people playing, feedback on the night was excellent.”

From 8pm onwards, guests were then given the regular Board Game Club experience, as the team unboxed an array of new and vintage games .

“We’re really pleased with how the first brand take-over of Board Game Club has turned out,” said Peter Jenkinson, Board Game Club co-founder.

“We welcomed a lot of new faces and heard some really positive feedback about the way we run the evenings and the relaxed and informal nature of the events. Over the next few weeks, we have some really interesting brand take-overs happening and we can’t wait to open our doors again for more of the same silly, sociable, gaming fun.”

Board Game Club will be opening its doors to its next sponsored evening next week, Thursday, October 1st, when Cartamundi will be treating attendees to a full evening takeover.
