UK partyware retailers unite to raise awareness of Rhino poaching crises

Sponsored by Qualatex and UK supplier Pioneer Europe, UK retailers took part in Rhino Ballon Project, a worldwide campaign to help save threatened rhinos.

UK partyware retailers have turned to balloons to help raise awareness of the ongoing Rhino poaching crisis in South Africa.

The movement is part of a wider global campaign in which balloon professionals will create and a number of Rhino balloon sculptures in order to benefit animal conservation in the South African national park of Pilanesberg.

The campaign kicked off earlier this month when balloon artist Guido Verhoef of the Netherlands created the largest balloon sculpture ever made on African soil at the Menlyn Park Shopping Centre in Pretoria.

The build comprised of an estimated 35,000 balloons.

Global efforts also reached UK shores where the Essex-based party retailer Balloon Inspirations created a balloon wall inspired by the logo of the campaign to protect the rhino.

“I wanted to show the elegant side of balloons, create a nice and clean design. This is why I chose to do a balloon wall for this project,” said Tope Abulude, owner of Balloon Inspirations.

“What motivated me to take part in this project is to hopefully highlight the threat of the Rhino’s survival and raise awareness for this good cause.”

Tope wasn’t alone in his efforts and was joined by Lucy Hennesey of Leigh-on-Sea’s Balloon Power.

“I decided to help with this project, as I think poaching is totally wrong,” she said.

“I have only ever seen a rhino in a zoo but would one day love to get the opportunity to see one in the wild. I am doing my bit to raise awareness so in the future my children and grandchildren will still be able to see these amazing animals.”

Both Abulude and Hennesey were sponsored by the balloon manufacturer Qualatexand its UK supplier Pioneer Europe to take part in the initiative.
