A toy inventor is in the running to win a share of a £1million prize fund for her soft toy business idea, Plushiemorphs.

Sarah Parr took to the stage at last week’s Virgin Media Business’ Pitch to Rich event in Birmingham to put her company idea to a panel of experts.

Parr impressed with her range of Plushiemorphs, a collection of soft toy dogs and cats that transform from an ordinary pet into a superhero.

“I love seeing people’s reactions when they see the toys transform, but this was the best reaction yet,” said Parr, speaking of the response from the panel at the show.

“The experts were impressed by the product, so much so that they each bought one for their own children after the event.”

Plushiemorphs have been met with ‘overwhelming’ responses from across the toy industry, according to Parr, who has already seen interest from big names in the plush arena.

“The toys have had a great response from people experienced in the plush industry,” she told ToyNews.

“We attended NEC Spring fair and had very complimentary and encouraging feedback from a senior Jellycat designer and Peter Lockey, the director of the Puppet Company.

“This was a real thrill as I am a huge fan of both Jellycat and The Puppet Company.”

The inventor is now campaigning to get her range of toys to the final stage of the nationwide competition launched by Sir Richard Branson. She stands the chance of winning a share of a £1million business accelerator prize fund.

“It’s already been a fantastic learning opportunity and given me a chance to get great advice from experienced entrepreneurs,” Parr continued.

“I admire the way Richard Branson encourages creativity in his business and cultivates good ideas by respecting and listening to his employees. That’s the business I want to build.”

Parr is now calling on the public to help her reach the next stage as a public vote whittles the top 50 companies in each category to be shortlisted.

“After the fantastic response to plushiemorphs at the Birmingham live event I am even keener to get my toys through to the final stage of the competition,” she said.

“The prize would make a huge difference to my business, but as such a small start-up, I need all the votes I can get. I want Plushiemorphs to be a company that makes people feel good.”
