The National 2015 Schools Top Trumps Tournament champion has been crowned following the brand's annual competition.

Over 2,000 schools took part in this year's Top Trumps Tournament, which is organised by Winning Moves every year.

William Gooch from Elloughton Primary School in Yorkshire triumphed in a live final at Chessington World of Adventures, held on Saturday, June 27th. Prior to this, he had taken part in his own school's battle, national online round followed by the live national final.

This year, Top Trumps partnered with best selling children's fantasy novel series, Beast Quest. Children played with Beast Quest themed Top Trumps, with prizes including sets of the books and Beast Quest goodie bags as well as an iPad mini.

"Top Trumps is not only fun, but also highly education," said Suzie Howes, head of marketing at Winning Moves. "The success of the Tournament, and our Schools Club, has seen the introduction of Top Trumps to the classroom as an effective teaching tool.

"Heads and teachers are seeing the advantages of improved basic literacy and numeracy skills along with retaining knowledge on the subject matter covered in the pack.

"The better you know the pack, the better chance you have of winning the game."

Valerie Fry, director of licensing at Coolabi, added: "Beast Quest books are very popular in schools and it's great to be able to share the brand via Top Trumps cards. We've also supplied schools with a special code for exclusive free content in the Beast Quest Miniclip game, which launched in May and has already had over 4.1 million downloads.

"We've really enjoyed working with Top Trumps on this nationwide competition. Well done to all who took part."
