The Great British Teddy Bear Company has signed a deal with Qianlin to open over 100 Great British Teddy Bear Cafes across 12 cities in China.

The venture expected to bring in revenues of £40 million over the next five years.

The partnership will see the first two flagship cafes launched in Shanghai in January 2016, with the rest opening over the next five years.

A Great British Teddy Bear Town tourism attraction is also opening in Beijing next year.

“While attention is currently focussed on how China can help the British economy, our brand is a great example of how a British company can thrive in China," said Paul Jessup, founder of The Great British Teddy Bear Company.

“We are delighted to have signed a deal to become partners with Qianlin on this project. Their team has a proven track record with themed cafes, which are hugely popular in China. There are Charlie Brown Cafe?s from the USA, Hello Kitty Cafes from Japan and now Great Britain will be serving afternoon tea Teddy Bear style.

"Our brand embodies the best of British culture and style and our Chinese friends will be able to get a real taste for it in our GB Teddy Bear Cafes, which will be serving traditional afternoon tea in a truly British atmosphere.”

Mr Lu, CEO of Qianlin, added: “The Great British Teddy Bear Company offers licensees an exciting new opportunity to add value to their brand with a wide range of iconic British characters.

"Initial responses from franchisees currently bidding for the regional rights to open our GB Teddy Bear Cafe?s across China have exceeded our expectations, these Cafe?s are clearly going to be very popular and will be opening nationwide within the next twenty four months.”

The Great British Teddy Bear Company - which has designed Teddy Bears for the UK’s leading tourist attractions for the past eight years - has become China’s best-loved Teddy Bear brand.

Each GB Cafe will feature the company’s famous character bears, including Sherlock Holmes, The Queen, British Bobby, Shakespeare, Florence Nightingale and the Beefeater.

Customers can drink tea and eat cucumber sandwiches from vintage style cups and plates as they relax on chesterfield sofas.
