The age-old Pokémon mantra, ‘Gotta catch them all’ appears to have resurfaced, as NPD reports a recent surge in sales of the Pokémon Trading Card Game.

According to recent data, sales of the trading cards have shot up by over 50 per cent this year.

The results follow the introduction of the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y video games in October last year, which has been cited as ‘kick-starting the major increase in sales for the long-standing trading card game.’

Major releases for the Pokémon Trading Card Game have been centered on the Pokémon TCG: XY expansion, and UK distributor has already seen a “fantastic response” to last month’s latest addition, XY – Furious Fists.

“The Pokémon Trading Card Game is an enduring toy industry property with a proven sales record in the UK for the past five years,” said Esdevium’s sales director, Steve Buckmaster.

“We are delighted in the rise in sales, it’s a really exciting time in the Pokémon story and I’d encourage retailers to get behind this evergreen product.”

The Pokémon TCG is available from Esdevium in a variety of formats, ranging in prices from £9.99 for standard decks to £12.99 for gift tins.
