A haul of 600 Star Wars toys have raked in over a quarter of a million pounds at a Sotheby’s auction in the US.

As fans gear up for the impending release of the new film, a range of Star Wars collectibles were sold for over $505,000 at the auction, which was named Return of the Nigo.

The auction was named in light of Japanese clothes designer Tomoaki Nagao, who sold off a fraction of his collection to the highest bidders.

During the auction, a set of seven The Empire Strikes Back figurines sold for over $32,000.

A 1977 Star Wars cardboard box, which boasted an Early Bird Certificate Package, was snapped up for $20,000, while an early version of Luke Skywalker was also sold for $20,000.

However, due to a broken lightsaber the toy was later recalled.
