Sony Pictures and Escape Artists have hired Christopher Yost to do a rewrite on its Masters of the Universe movie.
Based on Filmation and Mattel’s He Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon, the live action movie follows a warrior named Prince Adam who has the power to transform into the heroic He-Man.
Variety reports that Yost has penned Thor: The Dark World and is co-writing Marvel's upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. He also has history with Mattel, having written the screeplay for the upcoming Max Steel movie.
Masters of the Universe is one of two projects Mattel has in the pipeline with Sony, the other being the Barbie movie which is set to hit screens in 2017.
The next few years are shaping up to be a big for toys at the movies.
There is Trolls and Ouija 2 in 2016, followed by Barbie, The LEGO Batman Movie, My Little Pony, Transformers 5 and The LEGO Ninjago Movie in 2017.
Also, currently without release dates, are Max Steel, Masters of the Universe, GI Joe 3, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Tonka, Magic: The Gathering, Play-Doh, Monopoly and Dungeons and Dragons.
