Smoby-Majorette is set to announce that it has acquired compatriot firm Berchet, in a deal which will create Europe?s second largest toy group.

An official announcement is expected shortly, but ToyNews understands that a draft agreement between the two companies has been signed and the deal will be completed in June. An action plan for the group, which will have a combined turnover of ?422m, will be revealed in July.
