The awards are designed to provide information to both parents and children on new products to the market which may be fun, educational or intelligent.
Entrants are eligible to enter new products for 2008, which are aimed at children between six and 14 years-old, into two of the following five categories: SMart Play, SMart Explore, Smart Build, SMart Power and new category Kids' Choice.
A panel of judges, including children, media personalities and the Science Museum's head of learning, will select a winner from each category and then an overall winner.
Molly Jackson, CEO of Science Museum Trading Company, said: “The Science Museum, through its interactive exhibits, shows, Store and licensed products is committed to encouraging children to learn through play. The Science Museum Smart Toy Awards, now in its third year, is a natural extension of this.
“We have over 2.6 million visitors a year and any product that wins a Science Museum Smart Toy Award is sure to be valued highly by visitors and parents from across the UK.”
Entries close July 31st and winners will be announced in September.
