Rent rise claims indie

Independent toy store Wordplay forced to shut.

Crouch End toy and bookstore, Wordplay, will close its doors on Saturday, May 31st.

The retailer told the Hornsey and Crouch End Journal that it was shutting down due to a “crippling increase” in rent.

Samantha Faulkner, assistant manager, said: "It is not as if there is anything else like this in Crouch End. We have been here since 1994.”

Popular indie calls time

A popular independent toy retailer is closing his store after some 34 years in the business, citing changes in the market as one of the reasons for his decision.
