A new safe online interactive learning site for pre-schoolers has been granted a licence from Hit Entertainment to add Bob the Builder and Thomas and Friends to its existing cast of popular children's TV characters.

The new characters will go live on www.clickandplay.com in early December.

ClickandPlay uses a walled garden approach, making it entirely safe as children can't get onto less suitable sites or be exposed to other dangers of the internet.

It teaches early computer skills, while its games and tools promote pre-school learning.

The site is subscription-based and new content is added weekly. Characters already on the site include Fireman Sam, Paddington Bear, Angelina Ballerina and Barney & Friends.

"Children love Thomas and Bob and we expect their arrival on ClickandPlay to boost subscription numbers dramatically," said Alastair Gregory, MD of the site. "The interactive nature of the games on our site let children take part in stories and help solve problems."

Katie Price, director of publishing at Hit, added: "ClickandPlay is a safe, fresh and new environment in which children can interact with their favourite characters, whilst also learning some basic computer skills. Our partnership offers Hit an exciting opportunity in further developing our digital strategy and has also created a new sales channel for the business."
