Pop culture toy line Ugly Dolls makes move for the big screen

Sin City director Robert Rodriguez will head the project as STX Entertainment launches animated and family division.

Pop culture toy line, Ugly Dolls is making its move for the big screen with a planned animated movie for May 2019.

The long-planned feature has been tapped as the film to launch STX Entertainment’s – the firm behind a portfolio of animated Ugly Dolls shorts, based on the toy line – family and animated division.

Robert Rodriguez, known for his films such as Sin City and From Dusk Till Dawn, has been named as director for the new project.

Ugly Dolls were first created by David Horvath via his company Pretty Ugly LLC and have taken off in popularity across Asia.
