A recent survey in which parents voted for the best children’s bedtime story ever written saw The Very Hungry Caterpillar come top.

The survey was held to mark World Book Day and retailers are making the most of The Very Hungry Caterpillar storybook’s winning rating by offering customers the complete range of Rainbow’s gifts, books and the new traditional wooden toys.

Anthony Temple, Rainbow Designs’ managing director said: "The appeal of this classic tale seems to know no end and we are delighted to be able to offer retailers such a varied and high quality toy and gift range to meet the growing demand for The Very Hungry Caterpillar products.

"The results of this survey are fantastic and it’s great news for retailers, customers and Rainbow that Eric Carle’s iconic book is once again in the public eye," he added.

The book beat contemporary classics such as JK Rowling's Harry Potter and The Gruffalo, by Julia Donaldson.

New Very Hungry Caterpillar products for 2010 include four wooden toys – Mini Word Activity, Wooden Dominoes, Pull-along Hungry Caterpillar and Peg Puzzle, in addition to a range of Soft and Activity books.
