Other highly recommended products in the category included Re:creation’s Razor Spark Scooter, the Kiddimoto Brit Pop Scooter and the Rubik’s 360.

David Smith, editor of ToyTalk commented: "The toy we eventually settled on combines playability with creativity in a rather special way.

"CornPack’s PlayMais is an arts and crafts toy that also works as a construction toy – kids can make simple patterns or ambitious structures depending on their mood – and the ease with which the pieces stick together means even very young children can have a go.

"With appeal across a very broad age range and excellent environmental credentials, PlayMais is the ToyTalk Toy of the Year for 2009."
